About Grapevine Lake

Created in 1952 with the construction of Grapevine Dam on Denton Creek, Lake Grapevine covers more than 7,200 acres with nearly 60 miles of shoreline. It was originally developed for flood control and water supply but has since become one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the Metroplex.

The lake is framed by rolling hills, wooded shorelines, and multiple parks maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local municipalities. Visitors will find numerous marinas, campgrounds, and trail systems. Its proximity to the city of Grapevine—famous for its historic downtown, wineries, and annual festivals—adds to the appeal, making it a hub for both outdoor recreation and cultural experiences.
