About Lake Meade

Lake Meade is an impoundment on Mud Run (in the Bermudian/Conewago Creek watershed of the Susquehanna River). The lake sits around 500 feet above sea level and is ringed by the gated Lake Meade community. Because it’s a private lake, amenities such as beaches, launches, and parks are for residents and their guests only.

Development began in 1966–67 with the dam and core neighborhood facilities; today the lake spans roughly 300 acres with about six miles of shoreline and typical residential-lake depths (around 30 feet at maximum). The Lake Meade Property Owners Association (LMPOA), organized in 1968, oversees lake use, security and common areas.

What you can do there

If you’re a resident or invited guest, you can enjoy neighborhood boating, paddling, swimming at community beaches/pool, shoreline picnics in the designated recreation areas, and catch-and-release or harvest fishing per Pennsylvania rules and LMPOA policies. The water is generally calm and well-suited to pontoon cruising, kayaking, and family swims.

Codorus State Park (Lake Marburg, 1,275 acres): Seven public launches, warm-water fishing, pool, trails, and abundant day-use facilities (≈15–20 miles).

Gifford Pinchot State Park (Pinchot Lake): Public boat launches, rentals, and a large ADA-accessible swimming beach (≈20–25 miles).

Access, marinas & ramps

Lake Meade is gated. Entry, boat stickers, and launch privileges are restricted to members in good standing and their guests; the public cannot use the ramps or beaches. Visitors interested in property showings must follow LMPOA’s visitor policy. For public ramps/marinas, use nearby Codorus State Park on Lake Marburg.

Safety & regulations

PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices): Required for all boats and children as per Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) rules.
Boat Registration: All watercraft must be properly registered with the PFBC.
Navigation Lights: Boats operating at night must use proper navigation lights.
Sober Operation: Alcohol and drug restrictions apply; operators must remain sober while boating.
