About Lake Eufaula

Lake Eufaula was formed by the Walter F. George (W.F. George) Lock and Dam on the Chattahoochee River. Completed in the mid-20th century, the reservoir provides flood control, navigation support, hydroelectric generation, water supply and extensive recreation opportunities. The Army Corps of Engineers manages numerous day-use parks and campgrounds around the lake, making shoreline access and boat launching widely available.

The lake’s upper reaches are bordered by the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge — an 11,100+ acre protected area that preserves wetland and upland habitats for birds, deer, and other wildlife. Nearby Lakepoint State Park sits on the lake’s Alabama shore, offering family-friendly facilities, cabins, a marina, trails and seasonal events.
