About Lake Martin
Spanning Tallapoosa, Elmore, and Coosa Counties, Lake Martin was formed when the Martin Dam was completed on the Tallapoosa River in 1926. At the time, it was the largest man-made lake in the world. Today, it continues to provide clean energy while serving as a year-round hub for recreation, real estate, and tourism. Its sprawling 41,150-acre surface and countless coves create a unique blend of open-water adventure and quiet, wooded hideaways.
The lake’s topography ranges from rolling pine forests to rocky outcroppings, featuring dozens of islands—some small and private, others large enough for day trips and exploration. With an average depth of around 41 feet and a maximum depth of 155 feet, Lake Martin remains ideal for boating, fishing, and diving.
